Sterling High School (Baytown, Texas)

Ross S. Sterling High School is a secondary school located in Baytown, Texas.

Sterling, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The school was built in 1966 to accommodate the growing population of Baytown. The campus has over 400,000 square feet (37,000 m2) and is built on 86.32 acres.

Sections of the city of Baytown are zoned to Sterling High School. Previously, sections of Highlands were until the Goose Creek Memorial High School was built in 2008.

The Sterling High School campus has been rated, as of 2009, as "Academically Acceptable."[1]

The 2006 School Membership Report shows that Sterling's ethnic breakdown includes 1,237 (42%) White students, 619 (21%) African-American students, 1,035 (35%) Hispanic students, and 49 (2%) Asian-American, Indian, and other students.

Sterling offers a wide range of courses. Along with the core courses, Sterling also offers many College Board AP courses, including:

"The Game" (Ross S. Sterling High School vs. Robert E. Lee High School)

"The Game", as it is called, is an annual football game between the Ross S. Sterling Rangers and the Robert E. Lee Ganders varsity football teams. This game takes place every year at Stallworth Stadium. Ever since 1967, these two schools have competed in this annual event. In 2008, the Ross S. Sterling Rangers defeated the Robert E. Lee Ganders, 21-20. The only other time that "The Game" has been decided by a point was in 1971(Ross S. Sterling won, 20-19.). The very next year, the Robert E. Lee Ganders beat the Sterling Rangers, 35-27, to close out the decade with a win-loss record against the Rangers at 9-1.
