KFZO
KFZO (99.1 FM), branded as "La Jefa 99.1 & 107.1", is a Regional Mexican formatted radio station. This station serves the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, and is owned and operated by Univision Radio.
History
The station began its broadcasting activities as KWDC on September 15, 1988, playing Jazz music. Less than a month after the station went on the air, owners Bill Mercer and Fred Graham sold it to Larry Greene, who changed the callsign to KJZY Jazzy 99.1. In 1991, KJZY made an unusual move for a commercial station: They developed "Operation Jazzy" to help save the station by soliciting listener donations. Some $25,000 was raised, only a small portion of the needed $150,000. By December, the station went dark and was sold. In 1992, the station went back on the air as KDZR Z-Rock 99.1FM, playing Rock music from ABC Radio Network's Z Rock satellite feed. It was then purchased by Marcos Rodriguez and rebranded KHCK 99.1 Kick FM, airing Tejano (or Tex-Mex) music. The station was also simulcast on 107.9 MHz.
In 2004, the station was then sold to Hispanic Broadcasting (now Univision Radio). Less than a year later, the station changed names and formats to KFZO as a Cumbia station. In 2006, the station added on-air radio personalities; Jesus, Stephanie Marie, and Little Danny, A yr later in 2007 Radio-Personality "DOMINO" enter as the after-noon drive dj. The station had been branded as "La Kalle" prior to February 19, 2009, when "La Que Buena" was moved from 107.9 FM (KESS-FM) and simulcast on 107.1 FM (KFZO). The Reggaeton station known as "Radio La Kalle" was then moved to 107.9 FM.
The station is an affiliate of the Dallas Cowboys Spanish Language Radio Network.[1]
