Communications Corporation of America
Communications Corporation of America (also known as ComCorp) is a broadcasting company in the United States that owns television stations in smaller markets. The company is headquartered in Lafayette, Louisiana.[1] It owns and/or operates 20 stations (counting satellite stations and those controlled via local marketing agreements).
At one point, ComCorp was also an owner of radio stations in its home market of Lafayette; it subsequently sold those stations to Regent Communications.[2]
In June 2006, ComCorp filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company emerged from bankruptcy in October 2007 under the control of Silver Point Capital, who also controls Granite Broadcasting Corporation.[1]
Out of the group's stations, only KTSM-TV in El Paso, Texas and KETK-TV in Tyler, Texas (both of which are NBC affiliates) produce their own newscasts; KETK essentially serves as a hub for the news operations for most of ComCorp's other stations that carry newscasts, including the group's slate of Fox affiliate stations (KVEO-TV's newscast is instead produced by KTSM and KDBC-TV in El Paso).
