How to Buy a Used RV at a Rock Bottom Price

Shop around! The best place to go first is to a used RV dealer's lot. Find out what the RV you are looking for is worth so you can spot a good deal when you see one.

When you are ready to buy, let the seller know you are interested. Tell him you are going to buy an RV today if you can find what you are looking for.

Look the RV over very carefully and point out any significant flaws or damage. Don't think the seller is trying to hide the damage from you or trying to mislead you in any way. The simple truth is that the seller might not have noticed the damage himself. People tend to ignore things they see everyday. BE POLITE! Never be rudely critical or insult someone's property. It's the same as insulting them! If you make the seller angry, he won't want to sell to you at any price. Be friendly! The seller will be more flexible and may prove to be a valuable asset after the sale.

Make your offer! If the RV fits your needs or you can overlook a few problems for a reduced price, ALWAYS make an offer. Explain to the seller that his RV is not exactly what you are looking for, but you will buy it at the right price. Always offer less than you are willing to pay to leave some room for negotiation. NEVER be ashamed or embarrassed about your offer!

If your offer is accepted, Congratulations! You own an RV!

If not, wait for the seller's counter-offer. When the seller gives you his counter price, offer to meet him halfway on the difference.

The next price he gives you will probably be his rock-bottom price. If it is acceptable, get a written agreement with his signature and a delivery date. Leave him a deposit check of $20 to $100 dollars. Make sure you put some important information on your check! EXAMPLE: Deposit on 1997 Winnebago Motorhome VIN#123456789 Balance Due $15,900.

Be Prepared! The seller will probably want a cashier's check in exchange for his RV and ownership papers. Make sure the title is signed properly by the parties listed on it. Don't be afraid to check ID's! Visit your local tax office to pick up the proper title transfer paperwork to take with you.
